If they could talk

27 augustus 2015 - York, Verenigd Koninkrijk

Today I saw the last part of the old city wall. This part was higher than the other two, but apart from that not very different. The view is not very spectacular, because the wall is not high enough to look over the buildings, so you look at the houses that are built near the wall. Especially the part of the wall I walked on today. They built a neighbourhood just within a stone’s throw. I could look into people’s front gardens and even into some of the houses. I would not want to live there.

Except for the not so spectacular views, it is really interesting and cool to be able to walk on a wall that is built by Romans. It has seen and experienced so much. If it could talk, it would tell us amazing stories. Just like the Minster, which has experienced the heat of fire, heard billion prayers, has survived I don’t know how many other dangers.

Today we had lunch again in the park next to the Minster. Inés and I were accompanied by a Japanese person, Kazuki (?), the one that was in our class on Monday. He moved to another class. I do not know the reason, but maybe because of the level of the lessons? That is not important. He had told Inés that he felt a bit alone (no other Japanese students, but a lot of Italians who do not take the effort to get to know someone else outside their group), so she invited him to have lunch with us. Of course!

The teacher of the morning class said suddenly at the end of the lesson that our homework was to review and reread chapter eight of the book, because we have a test tomorrow. A test! Last week we did not have to do a test. But I am not really worried. It will be fine.

It is Friday tomorrow. Last week there was a fire drill that disturbed our lesson. I am curious. Do they have fire drills every Friday? So, will our test be disrupted by that horrible noise?

Tomorrow will be my last school day. I am sad that I have to go. I really feel at ease there and everybody is very nice and the lessons are interesting. It is good to have to talk so much in English. I like the location of the school. I like taking the bus because the way to school is very beautiful. So, to summarise: it has been a very good experience. I learned a lot (about English but also other cultures), got to know new people, fell in love with York(shire).

Norma asked me what I want for dinner tomorrow, because that will be my last one here. I said that I have no idea, and that I am happy with almost everything. So it will be a surprise. Richard said he will bring me to the airport Saturday! That is very nice.

Just one thing left on the to-do list: the Yorkshire Museum. I want to go on Saturday, because I leave late in the afternoon. I hope that it will work, because I really would like to go to the museum and the gardens.
